INITIAL BRIEF
NEW BRIEF (9/10/17)
Krakow:
One of the largest and oldest cities in Poland, Krakow was the capital from 1038 - 1596.
Believed to have been founded after the defeat of a dragon, Krakow has a very mythical ora to it.
Impressive looking churches, museums and a huge market square can be found in The Old Town, as well as remnant synagogues found in the Jewish quarter which is a reminder of the tragedy of the second World War. Many of the back streets boast a harmonious setting perfect for reflection and admiration of the amazing architecture surrounding the area. Krakow has a beautiful balance of old and new which is what makes it such a popular place to visit.

Facts about Krakow
- St. Mary's Trumpet Call plays hourly from the tower of St. Mary's Basilica which is a major symbol of Krakow, the melody is always stopped short to symbolise the legend of the trumpeter who was killed by an arrow in 1240 for warning locals of an approaching enemy.
- Krakow's Town Hall Tower is the city's own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
- The 11 tonne Sigismund Bell which is located in the bell tower of Wawel Cathedral and can be heard through the most important Polish holidays.
- The Castle of Wawel is the home of Leonardo da Vinci's "Lady with an Ermine" original.
- The Balaton Restaurant is a traditional Austro-Hungarian tavern that serves traditional Hungarian potato pancakes with pepper which can be smelt from the surrounding streets.
- The university which was established in the 14th century is the oldest university in Poland
- The famous movie Schindler's List was shot in one of the Jewish quarters called Kazimierz. A lot of the houses here are still decorated with Stars of David, the shops and cafes in this area serve Jewish dishes from those times.

Despite being a member of the EU, Poland doesn't use Euros. It instead has its own currency which is called 'zloty' however some places do accept euros but it is not guaranteed.
£1 is equivalent to 4.78 zloty
The colours from this could potentially be used in my design, or even the grid/ layout could be used for my book layout.
Flags:
For more inspiration I decided to look at the flag of both Krakow and Poland, I thought this would help em understand the city more and give me something else to consider when it comes to choosing a colour scheme.
The flag of Krakow features a coat of arms which includes a red brick wall with three towers, each tower is topped with a battlement with three crenels and they all have black windows. The official colours of Krakow are blue and white which can be seen in the background of this flag.
The flag of Poland is very simply just two horizontal stripes which are of equal width, the two colours are defined in the Polish constitution as the national colours of Poland and were adopted in 1831. Polish flag day is celebrated on May 2nd every year.
