Recipe Apps

Top 10 of 2017

Sidechef

Similar to my idea this app delivers recipes with step by step instructions with photos and videos to go along side. It features a timer so you don't have to keep swiping the screen or if you finish a head of time you can swipe for the next step.

Yummly

An app that takes into account your dietary requirements and favourite flavours to help you find the perfect recipe, it shows you a selection of recipes which can be liked/ saved for later. From this the app suggests other recipes you might like to try and creates a list of new recipes every time you open the app. The app allows you to create a shopping list and order from it too.

Kitchen Stories

Providing a variety of recipes with easy to follow instructions, videos and photographs. You can save your favourite recipes and add notes to them as well as creating a shopping list.

ChefSteps'

ChefSteps' articles and videos all have a nice, conversational style and cover a variety of topics, recipes and food hacks. The app interface is pretty bare bones. A one-time purchase unlocks premium recipes and extra content.

Tastemade

The app features a variety of recipes and videos, as well as regular shows and features with chefs. Shows include All Nighter, which takes a look at late night eats, bars, and other nighttime hangouts, or the comedy Food Court. Free users can access and save a limited amount of content and shows, while a premium subscription removes these limits.

Hippie Lane

The app focuses on delivering recipes for sweet treats that are vegan, gluten free, and free of refined sugar, dairy, and GMO ingredients. Users can check out more than 50 baked and raw recipes, each recipe comes with convenient keywords, such as Raw, Nut Free, or Vegan, so you can search for the recipes that fit your dietary needs.

Tender

Users create a Tender account or sign up with Facebook, and the app presents you with images of a variety of meals sourced from different sites. Swipe right to save to your cookbook, swipe left to pass and go on to the next one. Users can filter recommendations by category, and the app learns to filter food recommendations by your choices. Users can then consult their cookbook for ingredients lists, as well as links to the original site that the recipe was taken from.

Allthecooks

A combination of recipe tutorial app and social network, providing its users with a huge range of recipes ranging from everyday to fine dining. Users can search for recipes from main courses, desserts, appetizers and soups, with filters for ingredients, ease of preparation and dietary restrictions. Users can create custom shopping lists, participate in user forums or comment on individual recipes and even upload their own favorite meals for others to enjoy.

Epicurious

Features more than 30,000 recipes sorted into convenient categories. Recipe search and categories make it an easy discovery tool, and a digital recipe box allows you to save your favorite recipes within the site and elsewhere on the Web. Extras include seasonal recipe collections, a seasonal ingredient finder, a hands-free cook mode and a smart timer that comes with Apple Watch support.

Cheftap

An app that specialises in importing recipes from your favorite website. Cheftap's built-in recipe scraper allows you to import from any website or blog, and it can even scrape all of the recipes from a Pinterest board, as well as from your Epicurious or Allthecooks recipe box. Users can tag and edit recipes. The app allows you to store 50 recipes offline or 100 recipes with a free account. A ChefTap Pro account also includes premium features such as unlimited recipe importing and cloud backup and syncing.
