MODULE EVALUATION
Over all I have enjoyed design principles as the briefs are very open and allow you to work in your own style. My favourite brief was the colour booklet as I had never designed a booklet previously. After looking back on my work I realised that the booklet I had initially designed was poor quality and didn’t look very nice. I chose to redesign this now I have learnt more on the course. I was more considerate of paper stock and colour use in my redesign as this is one of the main things I have learnt on the course.
My least favourite brief was redesigning the three penguin book covers as it wasn't something I was really interested in. I did enjoy researching into the Marber grid and the history behind it as it was something I never knew about before. It was also interesting to look into other grids and the best publications to use them on which has been an important lesson of the whole course and helped me a lot.
The short briefs have encouraged me to work quickly which I enjoyed however, I feel that my designs lack reasoning behind the decisions as I didnt have much time to do research. Due to this my designs are pretty weak and could be worked on for longer if there was enough time. Now we are at the end of the course I think I would've been able to tackle the short briefs better as I am much more used to working at a fast pace and I have more graphic design knowledge under my belt which would've helped me a lot.
The whole module has helped me explore different methods of production as well as exploring the designs of multiple different publications. If it wasn’t for design principles I wouldn’t have designed a poster or a booklet so far and this knowledge is good to have as they are quite popular things to design. It has also given me a reason to look into the principles behind graphic design and look into things such as colour use and theory.
