When thinking about colours to use for the period packaging I wanted something calming and soothing as being on your period can be a tricky time for lots of women.
I did some research into the most calming colours and came across an article that spoke about blue being the most calming colour
'The most calming colors are usually in the blue family, but muted, dusty shades of other colors can also be soothing, according to Jackie Jordan, Sherwin Williams director of color marketing.'
Blue
Blue promotes rest and calm and is a very popular color (the majority of people will respond that their favorite color is blue). Blue can be very effective to help ward off insomnia and promote a deep relaxing sleep. It can help balance hyperactivity in children, and promotes imagination and intuitive thinking.
While blue can often be tolerated in higher amounts than other colors, it is a cool color, and too much blue can shift into feelings of apathy, pessimism, or separation from others. Balancing blues with a warmer, more relational color is a great idea for gathering spaces in a home.
I decided to use blue for the main packaging which is regular tampons as these are the most popular type of tampons used.
I then wanted colours to use for the other tampon absorbencies such as super and lite. I wanted to use a muted colour palette so decided to go for pastel shades to keep with the calming theme.
Yellow
Yellow is the color of optimism, brightness, cheery attitude and mental clarity. It promotes creative, clear, upbeat thinking and decision making. Yellow can be helpful in easing depression and encouraging laughter.
Studies have shown that over-exposure to yellow, especially intense and deep yellows, can increase irritability, crying, hyperactivity, and can shorten tempers in babies and children (as well as adults).
Pink, a delicate color that means sweet, nice, playful, cute, romantic, charming, feminine, and tenderness, is associated with bubble gum, flowers, babies, little girls, cotton candy, and sweetness.
The color pink is the color of universal love of oneself and of others. Pink represents friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability.
Pink is the official color for little girls and represents sugar and spice and everything nice. Pink is the sweet side of the color red. While the color red stirs up passion, aggression, and action, large amounts of the color pink can actually create physical weakness.
Both red and pink represent love. The color red represents heat and passion, while the color pink represents romance and charm. Hot pink is used to communicate playfulness, while light pink is used to communicate tenderness.
