Household cost of food

To find out the amount of money people are willing to spend on things I did some research and found an 'insight into the spending habits of UK households, broken down by household characteristics and types of spending' on the Office for National Statistics website.

Transport is the top spending category, households spent an average of £79.70 a week on this in 2017.

Households in the 65 - 74 years old category spend one fifth of their total spending on recreation and culture.

Households without children spent more on transport than those who have children.

It is calculated that the average household spend per week is £554.20. This is broken down into:

14% Transport (£79.70)
13% Recreation and culture (£73.50)
13% Housing, fuel and power (£72.60)
13% Other items (£72)
10% Food & non-alchoholic drink (£58)
9%   Hotels & restaurants (£50.10)
8%   Good & services (£41.80)

FOOD

Fresh veg = £4.10

Fresh Fruit = £3.80
