Idea generation

To generate ideas I started off with a quick fire brainstorm, I put the company name 'Made By The Woods' and then broke the words down individually and came up with ideas for each of them. The word 'wood' sparked the most ideas which was good as this is the most important asset to the company, they make products out of reclaimed wood. I thought about things such as texture and purpose. For the word 'made' I thought about the fact that if something is 'homemade' it has more value and seems more luxurious as someone has put time and effort into creating it. The word 'by' isn't very important in terms of idea generation however it did spark up some interesting ideas in terms of a transformation as the wood used goes from being useless/ forgotten about to something new and interesting.

I wanted to capture the idea of a wood/ forest area in a simple form. I started to look at the way a pine tree is often drawn in triangles and I wanted to play on this and make the triangles more of a feature. The triangle idea also relates to the recycle logo which is  a big part of 'Made By The Woods'  as they upcycle a lot of unwanted wood.

A lot of my other ideas were focused on simplifying an oak tree and changing it from a stereotypical childs drawing and making the leaves more of a design aspect. However if this was to be engraved it would be a very detailed piece which could end up looking messy therefore I scrapped this idea.

After doing some research into tree rings I thought about doing some designs incorporating them as they are an important part of the tree as it tells it's life story in a way. Drawing these designs by hand was difficult therefore I will experiment with them more on illustrator.  I also did some rough stretches of wood cutting/ wood craft tools as I think these are an important part of the making process. I will try to feed these into my design work some how.
