Farm shops

Farm shops are an easy way to eat more sustainably as you know their produce has definitely come from the specific farm where the shop is located. Farm shops have started to become quite a trend and have popped up everywhere so are easy to access by everyone. Not only can you go for lunch at most in their on site cafes that sell local produce, you can also but produce and cook for yourself at home.

One of the farm shops I personally visit a lot is called Haighs, it is a family run farm and business which is managed by the Haigh family. Their knowledge of the trade has helped them run the business since 1980 which is one of the most recognised and reputable farm names locally. The farm shop employs over 50 locals some of who work through the night to bring the best produce. Not only do they provide fresh produce they also keep a lot of people in work which really benefits the community. Traditionally beef farmers with three local farms under their belt, all the beef sold in their shop is guaranteed to be fresh and at a low price. The pork and lamb sold in their shop has been bought locally at cattle markets and the slaughtered on site which again guarantees freshness as well as a cheap price. They do not grow their own crops but they do however provide a platform for local companies to sell vegetables. They also produce their own : Milk
Cheese
Cream
Eggs
Sauces and Condiments
Beef Dripping
Yoghurts
Vegetables
Salads
Coleslaw
