initial ideas

To get some ideas flowing I did a mind map of word associations to get some inspiration on how to approach this brief. I thought about the fact students like to display art work in their accommodation to make it feel more homely etc. Due to this I thought it would be nice to create some sort of poster which they receive for free when they buy the art pass so they can display it in their halls and potentially encourage their flat/house mates to visit galleries too or even buy an art pass. Poster and plant sales are really big events at the start of university therefore it could be a good idea to target this area of sales.

I also thought about what makes a gallery a nice place to visit such as the relaxing nature of it, the fact theres always cute little cafe and gift shop. It's such a simple thing to do, visiting a gallery, however it can be made into a day out and be exciting for a group of friends or on a date. Students like exploring and finding the new hot place in town therefore highlighting galleries in this light might make them more likely to visit.

I also thought about elements which are linked to all areas of a gallery such as the frames surrounding pieces of art which make them look expensive and emphasise the work even more. As well as the grand pieces of sculpture which dominate a room. Seating is also important in galleries as they provide perfect spots to sit, relax and unwind whilst soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

I also looked at the year the students targeted were born in, 18 -22 year olds are born from 1996 to 2000 therefore using some childhood memories to stop and make them think could help as a lot of them are away from home therefore this style of design could be comforting to them
