booklet size

Booklet:
I wanted the booklet to be square as I wanted something symmetrical and appealing to look at as I think it makes people more interested in the content and more likely to actually read it and pay attention. I want everything in the box to be exciting and nice to look at as I think this makes each monthly box exciting, people will be paying for these boxes therefore it needs to be worth the money. I want the booklet and the poster to be like little pieces of art that people will cherish and display in their homes.

The booklet also needs to be small enough to fit in the box which is only A5 size so that it can fit through a letter box and not need signing for which I think is more convenient as missed packages can be really annoying.

the booklet size will be 110mm x 110mm

I want a very simple and straight to the point design for the front cover as I don't want it to be too overwhelming or off putting for newbies. I chose to use Zenyth script for the name of the book 'Growing Guide' I wanted something simple and straight to the point which again adds to the ease of growing your own fruit and veg.

i found this page was lacking and not very inspiring so I chose to add another little illustration of a plant growing onto it, again I found the page to be lacking and don't think this suits the design.

I added a green background to replicate the type of paper I could potentially print on, I think this looks nice but I still find that the design looks very flat and a bit childish.

I tried adding a triangle to make the design more geometric/ Scandinavian and I think this gave it a little boost but still wasnt 100% there.

I played around with the composition of the text to tie it in more with the background design.

I then got rid of the illustration all together as I thought the front cover should be as simple as possible and then the inside be packed full of illustrations/ colour/ information.

I changed the typeface to futura to make it look more modern and contemporary and I already started to like it more.

Again I played around with composition to make the type and the design work together as one. I didnt really like this idea as I think it could be confusing, it is as though the book has been split into two halves or something.

I brought back the illustration but a more simplified version this time as well as a green rectangle to show the growth of plants which will take place. I really like this design and think that it is heading in the right direction.

I decided to tie in the text and the rectangle design by underlining the text with the rectangles. I think this looks really nice, the rectangles add a bit of colour without looking random.

To add something different I tried a terrazzo print in the background to continue with this Scandinavian/ interior design style. However I dont think this makes it clear as to what is in the book.

I then added fruit, veg and gardening equipment illustrations to the design as I thought this would make it more interesting and obvious as to what the book was about. I really like this design and think it matches the poster design well.
