For the crit I had a bit of design work to show in relation to studio brief 2. For this brief I am creating a mail out/ subscription box which will encourage people to grow their own fruit and veg and potentially buy more seasonal fruit and veg from the supermarkets.
I started off by showing the group the seed packaging I had produced so far, I explained that there would be 3 x veg seeds and 3 x fruit seeds per month.
I then showed them the poster I had designed which I thought people could receive monthly to remind them of the seasonal fruit and veg that month which would hopefully encourage them to shop more seasonally.
I also presented to them my booklet which would be in each box to give help and advice on how to grow the monthly seeds provided in the box. It is aimed at people who are new to growing seeds therefore is very simple and easy to follow.
The Feedback:
Instead of a poster consider making a seasonality calendar which suggested new fruit/ veg to buy per week/ month.
The box could come in two sizes: A starter pack which contains pots, and everything they will need. Then the monthly boxes which just contain the basics.
Encouraging children to get involved. Making it fun for the family.
Using instagram to promote it: have competitions such as grower of the month, special deals, etc.
How did Graze get their name out there? look into this and do something similar e.g: first box free, leaflets to promote it.
Each month could have a seasonally inspired box design: this could be done through a sleeve which is wrapped around the box or a sticker placed on the box.
Look at:
Birch box, sourced box for inspo as they are nicely designed.
Think about paper stock and printing things as this may take a lot of time to get right.
I am really pleased with the feedback and it has given me a lot of ideas to work from. As for the calendar idea I really like this and think I will develop this further. I also like the idea of having 2 different box sizes and I will look into buying more items to put in the box. Encouraging children has been suggested before however I'm not too sure on this idea. I feel that people with kids don't have much time to do things like this especially because it would cause a lot of mess. I don't want to have to design something targeted at children however my design will be suitable for children therefore people have the option to do this. The average age people have children has risen to roughly 34 years old therefore it cuts out a large section of the target audience as I was planning on aiming at people 25+.
